CENTURY, Fla. — Florida is investing millions of dollars into rural communities across Northwest Florida.
Gov. Ron DeSantis awarded nearly $8.8 million to 12 small and rural communities.
The funding was awarded through the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program and the Community Planning Technical Assistance Grant Program.
The money will go toward supporting local infrastructure, enhance community resiliency and promote long-term economic growth.
The Town of Century is getting $75,000 to develop a hydraulic model of the town’s municipal drinking water system.
City of Freeport in Walton County is also getting $75,000. That will go to updating the city's comprehensive plan to support long-term industrial and commercial development.
