PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has awarded $9 million to the city of Pensacola for infrastructure improvements aimed at expanding the state’s shipbuilding capacity at the Port of Pensacola.
The grant will support the construction of two shipbuilding facilities at the port, covering site development, utilities and facility construction. The project will encompass approximately 400,000 square feet of manufacturing space.
The infrastructure enhancements will allow the port to produce complex Navy ship modules for submarines and warships up to 400 feet long.
Officials estimate the project will create 2,000 manufacturing and related jobs.
