Over the last month, Florida voters have been telling pollsters their view on a series of issues.
Two recent polls by the (JMI) James Madison Institute and the University of North Florida (UNF) published the latest numbers.
AFFORDABILITY
The UNF poll shows 23% of Florida voters say overall it’s the top issue. 21% said housing costs and property taxes; 20% said property insurance; and 10% said low wages.
26% of Democrats said inflation was their main issue. 32% said housing costs. Republican voters cited property taxes (32%) and property insurance (25%) at their top concern.
The JMI poll found 94% of voters say the cost of living in Florida has increased over the past year, with 62% saying costs are rising “a lot.”
PROPERTY TAXES
UNF polling showed 61% support for the property tax amendment with 32% opposing it.
But when told if it would lead to cuts in government services, the number of support dropped significantly to 45% with 47% opposing.
The JMI poll said 74% of Florida voters back the legislature’s proposal to reduce or eliminate property taxes. Concerned with gov’t cuts? 55% said no and said the cuts are worth it even if local governments have to cut spending or find other revenue.
FLORIDA GOP PRIMARY FOR GOVERNOR
The JMI poll shows among GOP primary voters, Congressman Byron Donalds has 49%, Lt. Gov. Jay Collins at 18% and former House Speaker Paul Renner at 8%.
For the general election, Donalds leads democrat David Jolly 45% to 38%, and Collins leads Jolly 44% to 39%.
The UNF poll found Republican Byron Donalds over Democrat David Jolly 46%-41%.
APPROVAL RATINGS ON TRUMP, DESANTIS, VANCE and RUBIO
The UNF poll asked all voters their views of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Gov. DeSantis’ job approval was at 57% approving and 41% disapproving. Sec Rubio had a 56% job approval, with 42% disapproving. UNF said DeSantis and Rubio had good numbers among GOP voters and registered Independents
But President Trump and VP JD Vance came in much lower.
